Suspect rams police car after I-70 chase

ST. ANN, MO (KTVI) – An I-70 police chase ended with the suspect ramming a police car late Friday afternoon.

A police officer noticed a speeding vehicle on eastbound I-70 in St. Ann.  The chase wound through St. Ann streets and ended in a wooded area in Berkeley not far from the police department.

The chase ended with the suspect’s car facing-off against the police vehicle. The suspect’s car rammed the police car, injuring the officer.   He was taken to the hospital.  The 27-year-old officer is suffering from an injured knee. He is expected to survive.

Marijuana was found in the suspect’s vehicle.  The suspect was traveling with a pregnant woman.  She has been taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The suspect, Anthony Smith, 20, is in police custody.  He is charged by the city of St. Ann for assaulting a police officer.  He was on probation for a number of crimes.  He was also wanted on a warrant out of Independence, MO.
