ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - The R-rated comedy that's created an international firestorm will open in the United States this week. Some St. Louis theatres will show The Interview beginning Christmas Day.
Harman Moseley operates 3 St. Louis area theaters. He says two of them, the Chase Park Plaza and Galleria theatres, will show the film starting December 25th. Wehrenberg Theatres will also show the film at some of its locations.
"It might not be the greatest movie on earth, but you know it's worth standing up for and saying this should be played at theatres," said Moseley. "I think people should come out and support it."
The general manager of the MX movie theatre downtown is also excited about Sony's change of heart.
"All day our phone has been ringing off the hook to see when people can purchase tickets," said Sara Helton. "We don't anticipate anyone is going to be scared to come out."
Helton said MX will start showing The Interview January 2nd.
Some theater owners are critical of Sony's decision to also make the movie available through video on demand at the same time theatres will show it.
Moseley believes that's why some theatres won't show the film. He says making the film immediately available through video on demand reduces in-theatre business.
