FERGUSON, MO (KPLR) – The owners of Cathy’s Kitchen are taking a brave step after looting and vandalism. They’re opening a new restaurant.

The Jenkins announced plans to open J & C BBQ and Blues, a barbecue and music venue, two doors down from Cathy`s Kitchen by March 2015. The building where the new restaurant is being constructed severely damaged during riots.  Protesters busted 26 windows and there are scorch marks on the back of the building.

Volunteers came to clean and repair the storefronts on South Florissant Road in the week since the grand jury decision. Artists have painted murals on plywood boards covering buildings.

The couple still plans to open the new restaurant this spring. The owners credit the crowd-funding campaign that helped raise $14,000.  The couple also plans to build a third restaurant in late 2015.
