(KPLR)- Our Tools for Teachers program presented by Weber Chevrolet features many extraordinary teachers throughout the Metro area.

Our Tools for Teachers program sponsored by Weber Chevrolet awarded $500.00 from Weber Chevrolet to our first ever Principal, Mr. Thomas Dittrich from Hancock Place Middle School.  Tom and his wife Erin, also an administrator at the school, started the Tigers Elite baseball and softball programs growing to coach over 150 kids during the summer months.  Tom is known for motivating students to have a passion for education – he’s eaten bugs, hosted dunk tanks, and ice bucket challenges.  He was nominated by 5 teachers within the school including this nomination below:

Mr. Dittrich has been in education for over 16 years and has worked his entire career at the Hancock Place School District. What is special about this man is that he graduated from Hancock Place in 1993, he attend Hancock Place from Prek-12th grade and came back there once he graduated from Harris Stowe State University.  He has coached Cross Country leading his girls team to be the first team to make it to the State Race in Jefferson City, he coached Baseball and Basketball as well. He of course played in all of those sports and his name is all over the TIGER DOME on the banners one shows that his Senior year his baseball team won the State Championship (first and only State Baseball win for the Hancock Place School District).  His and his wife (me) both attended Hancock and were High School Sweethearts and married after 6 years of dating, we have been married for over 16 years and both work for the AMAZING Hancock Place School District, Erin is the Parents as Teachers Coordinator for the district as well.  Tom and his wife both started the Tigers Elite Baseball program about 7 years ago which started with 1 team and has now expanded to 7 teams from the age range of Preschool to Eighth grade.  This program is offered to the Hancock Place residents and this past summer (2013) our program has serviced over 105 players.  We call this program our Tiger Family because we spend many hours opening the gyms for practices, making practice schedules, setting up team pictures, a end of the year picnic, and we offer off season fitness as well and ask parents to join in on the fun.  Tom does this all out of the kindness of his heart and volunteers countless amount of hours away from our family to provide opportunities to the Hancock Place children so we can get them off their couches,  encourage physical activity, team building and help build the confidence of the children within our community. If you ask anyone in the Hancock Place School District you who Thomas Dittrich, Jr is and what type of a man he is you will be pleasantly surprised because most everyone in Lemay knows this man and knows he has a heart of gold! Please consider this man for this award, he is a very deserving man!

Tom Dittrich received $500.00 from Weber Chevrolet and 2 tickets to the Science Center for students.
