ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)-The annual 2014 Christmas in St. Louis Thanksgiving Day parade has been postponed. News 11 has learned that at least one school district with a marching band slated to perform in the event had decided to pull out of the event because of security concerns.

Another district with a band in the event, Mehlville, confirmed that it was notified of a change of date, potentially December 13.

The Christmas in St. Louis Foundation released the following statement Tuesday.

“Given the unrest in our community following the tragic death of Michael Brown, The Christmas in St. Louis Foundation is postponing the Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade until later this holiday season.  More details will be shared once a new date is confirmed.  In these challenging times, we encourage you to gather with your friends and loved ones to reflect, and enjoy this special and unique American tradition.”
