Pigeons snapped chowing down at Manhattan food cart
New York, NY (WPIX) — Busy New Yorkers aren’t the only ones who stop at a street cart for a quick bite to eat.
Apparently, pigeons are fans of street meat as well.
Sarah Rodich photographed 2 pigeons dining at a food cart in the high 40s and 6th Avenue two weeks ago.
“I’m walking down 6th Avenue, I see a bunch of tourists stop to look at something and I check out to see what they are seeing and I saw two pigeons hanging out and eating on the food cart,” Rodich told PIX11.
“No one was there, they were just feasting. I waited about 10 minutes before I decided to go home.”
Pigeons are known to carry a range of diseases that can be passed to humans.
PIX11 returned to the corner to see if we could track down this food vendor and ask what happened. We didn’t find that cart’s owner, but we did find plenty of sidewalk diners and showed them the picture.
But before you completely lose your appetite, there is one man who says not to automatically judge all carts on one picture.
“That’s something that usually the workers are inexperienced and cant really take care of their location, usually that something that rarely happens it’s very rare,” said vendor Ahmed Ibrahim.
Ibrahim served up his signature dishes and explained that many of his fellow small business owners want greater regulations, and he’s pushing to have food carts get visible grades just like restaurants.
“We follow a little motto here, if you can’t serve it to your mother, you don’t serve it to the customer,” Ibrahim said.
