Empowerment summit held in north St. Louis County
JENNINGS, MO (KPLR) – Saturday at the Greater St. Mark Church members from the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis, the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri, Mound City Bar Association, TEACH, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Urban League Young Professionals of Metropolitan St. Louis hosted an empowerment summit for the residents of north St. Louis County.
The summit focused on the exchange of ideas, issues and grievance from the communities around Ferguson and from law enforcement. Workshops were also held on know your rights, voter education and “Court 101: How to prepare and win”.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson, St. Louis County Police Department Chief Jon Belmar, St. Louis Police Department Chief Sam Dotson, Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson and Florissant Police Chief Tim Lowery attendance the summit.
Area police departments, the Missouri Highway Patrol and the FBI also held a recruitment drive for minorities into law enforcement.
