ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KTVI) -  Pat Grabovic's son, A. J., suffers from a rare  muscular disease and needs five life support machines to stay alive.

She's relied on a portable generator to power the life support machines in case the power is ever knocked out.

"Anytime there is a storm it is scary," she said. "If the power goes out I have to quickly hook up all his machines to the generator."

The generator isn't sufficient to sustain the machines for a long period of time.

After learning about her power problem, Tom Henning with Home Depot decided to do something.

"I just said let's do this," Henning said.

He teamed with several businesses to install a whole house generator in Grabovic's home for free.

"It's just a blessing," Grabovic said.

The total price tag for the project could've been around $10,000.

Now Grabovic will have a reliable back up system that starts automatically to power the machines if the power is ever knocked out.
