DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS (KTVI)-The AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says labor cares about Ferguson.

“Unless you’re the mother of an African-American man or boy, you don’t know what it’s like for them to walk out the door and you wonder if they’re coming home tonight. So I’m not going to presume that I know what that community needs. What I’m going to do is listen to the needs of that community and then work my tail off to make sure that we can meet those needs.”

Trumka spoke at the Missouri AFL-CIO convention downtown. His remarks focused heavily on issues of race and class surrounding the shooting death of Michael Brown.

Trumka is also meeting with community and labor leaders to discuss how labor can be part of the solution and a community ally.
