St. Charles County man shoots ex-girlfriend, friend’s father

ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KPLR)- A St. Charles County man is in custody Sunday morning after he shot his ex-girlfriend and the father of her friend.

According to Lt. Dave Tiefenbrunn with the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department, the 21-year old suspect had been separated from his girlfriend since April, but the two had remained in contact by phone. On Saturday night, the two agreed to meet at a gas station at the intersection of Highway N and Highway Z, south of Wentzville.

The ex-girlfriend, 18, arrived with a friend. The two left a nearby high-school football game to meet the suspect.

When the arrived, the suspect confronted the two with a .22 caliber handgun

The friend of the ex-girlfriend called her father. When he arrived on scene, he confronted the suspect and the two got in a fight. The suspect shot the 37-year old father in the face.

He then shot the ex-girlfriend twice, once in the hand and once in the shoulder.

Police were responding to the scene when the suspect fled. They were able to stop him and take him into custody.

The ex-girlfriend is still hospitalized with non-life threatening wounds.

The 37-year old man was treated for his wounds and released from an area hospital.

Charges are pending. No one involved in the incident has been identified.
