MAPLEWOOD-( KPLR )-The Maplewood Richmond Heights High School Athletic Department has canceled this week’s football game against St. Francis Borgia on Friday, September 5, 2014 due to injuries. The team currently has six players who are unable to play, along with others suffering minor injuries from the previous week.

“Our guys fought hard against a much bigger team on Friday,” said MRH Athletic Director Rich Nixon. “Even though our team is young, our players gave every ounce of effort against Clayton.”

Due to the cancellation, MRH will be required to forfeit per MSHSAA regulations, which will put the team at 1-2 for the year.

“It was a tough decision to make because our kids want to play,” added Nixon. “However the coaches and I feel it's in our players best interests to take the extra week to get healthy. We do not want to further compromise the health of our student athletes by playing them out of position.”

The next matchup for the Blue Devils will be a home game against Normandy on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m.
