(KPLR) – A push is underway to add a small metro east village to the ‘National Register of Historic Places.’

Brooklyn, Illinois was founded by a former slave in 1830 and is often cited as the oldest African-American community in the U.S.

The ‘Belleville News Democrat’ reports state archaeologists are trying to get it added to the ‘National Register of Historic Places.’
