(KPLR)- Do you need advice for keeping your pets safe during this heatwave? Well our friends at Stray Rescue want to help.

Randy Grim stopped by to share some life-saving tips for keeping your pets cool.

Hot Weather Tips:

-If your pet must be outdoors for a portion of the time, provide an adequately shaded area and plenty of fresh water at all times, otherwise keep pet in air conditioning.

-Never leave a pet in a parked car, even with the window cracked.

- Don`t let your pooch slouch and lay down on the hot asphalt. Sensitive paws can burn and their bodies can heat up extra quick. Make sure to keep walks in hot weather to a minimum.  Exercise your dog in the early morning or late evening, when temperatures and pavement are cooler.

- Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion, such as excessive panting, difficulty breathing, vomiting, increased heart and respiratory rates, drooling, sluggishness, or even collapse. Seek veterinary care immediately if you notice these symptoms.

Randy also gave us information on Stray Rescue's crowd-funding initiative.
