(KPLR) – New numbers show you’ll have to bring home more bacon to buy your bacon.  The price for the breakfast staple is soaring to the highest level it’s been in 30 years.   And it’s all because of high demand and an ongoing shortage of healthy pigs.

The pork surge began last year when a virus swept through U.S. farms killing millions of pigs.  A pound of bacon now costs more than $6.

I like bacon but i quit buying it when it reached almost $3.00 per pound in 2009. There is noway i will pay that amount of money for fat and grease and cholesterol, it,s cheaper to get my smoke flavor addiction on at Denny’s once or twice per month with the thinnest pieces of bacon on the planet.
