UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KPLR) – The University City Civil Service Board says five suspended firefighters should get their jobs back, with back pay.

The city suspended the firefighters this spring after they appeared in political flyers before the April municipal election.

The city said the firefighters violated election law by appearing in uniform; but the firefighters say they were not in their University City firefighter uniforms in the ads, and that they have done it on other occasions with the city’s blessing.

The final decision rests with the city’s City Manager.
