Suspect charged in biker’s murder

MADISON COUNTY, IL (KPLR) – Police have charged a 23-year-old man with the murder of a motorcyclist on Sunday.

Police say that Ryan Bailey, 23, of Pontoon Beach shot Travis Mayes while he was riding his motorcycle around 4am in Granite City on Sunday. Police thought the murder scene was a traffic crash. Mayes was found dead next to his motorcycle. A 911 call reported the motorcycle rider had been shot. The caller provided information about the shooting.

Travis Mayes was found with a bullet wound to his head.

Bailey is being charged with three counts of First Degree Murder. The suspect is in custody at the Madison County Jail. His bail is set at $2,000,000.
