Man stealing a cart of meat shot by 72-year-old security guard

ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) – A man trying to steal a cart full of meat from a grocery store was shot by a 72-year-old security guard.

Police report that a 41-year-old man was confronted by a security guard at an Aldi’s on North Kingshighway at around 1:30pm on Sunday. The suspect was trying to leave with a cart of meat that he did not purchase.

The security guard tried to stop the from leaving by spraying him with pepper spray. The wind blew some of the spray into the guard’s face. That is when the suspect began punching the 72-year-old man. The security guard started staggering backward and the 41-year-old suspect continued to assault him. The security guard then drew his gun and started shooting at the suspect. He shot him once in the ankle.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, treated and then released. The suspect is now in police custody.
