GRANITE CITY, IL (KPLR)- What started as a response to motorcycle crash turned into a murder investigation in Granite City overnigh. Around 3:40am, a Madison County Sheriff deputy came upon what appeared to be a motorcycle crash in the 4700 block of Nameoki Road. A man was found dead next to the motorcycle.
Illinois State Police responded to the scene to investigate the suspected crash.
Just a few minutes later, a 911 call was received saying that the motorcycle rider had
been shot along with other information. An examination of the victim, identified only as a 43 year old Pontoon Beach man, showed he had a bullet wound to the head.
A 22 year old male suspect was located and taken into custody at his home in Pontoon Beach. He is being held at the Madison County jail pending charges.
The Illinois State Police, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, and the Pontoon Beach and Granite City Police departments continue to investigate.
