COLUMBIA, MO (KPLR) -There’s lots of excitement in Columbia, Missouri after former Tiger football player Michael Sam was chosen to play professional football right in Mizzou’s backyard.  Many can’t wait to see Sam playing in St. Louis.  Student Jordan Williams said, “It’s a great move on the Rams’ organization even though it was a late pick. It’s very fitting that he’s playing with the St. Louis Rams organization.”

However, football fans from the other side of the state aren’t too happy.  Student Zach Wills said, “I would have preferred Michael Sam would have gone to the Chiefs.”

Students learned the Rams had selected Sam Saturday when they saw him on television celebrating with his partner, a former Mizzou swimmer.  Lindsey Peecher said, “I’m really happy for him I think it’s great he found someone here and he can be out with him.”

As for the gay issue, it seems to be a non-issue on campus.  Student Ben Ganic said, “As long as he’s effective on the football field, it doesn’t matter to me his lifestyle.”

Students also believe the publicity about Michael Sam and his partner is only good for Mizzou.  Jordan Williams added, “It really cements Mizzou as one of the forefront universities in this country.”
