Mother of Florissant man killed by Drunk Driver Speaks Out

ST. LOUIS , MISSOURI-(KPLR) -Three years ago 29-year- old David Weinstein of Florissant, Missouri was killed by a drunk driver two days after Mother’s day and three days before his 30th birthday. His mother is teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Drivers also know as MADD to host the 2nd Annual St. Louis “Walk Like MADD Walk-Run” to honor and remember those killed or injured in a drunk driving crash. Deborah Weinstein says she is determined to speak out for the MADD organization to help raise the awareness about drunk driving. A St. Charles County woman was charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly driving drunk and causing the fatal crash that killed David. The accident happen May 11, 2011 at Missouri Highway 370 near St. Louis Mills Mall.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Weinstein was driving eastbound on Highway 370 when a car driven by the suspect turned in front of him in an attempt to -change lanes, causing both vehicles to overturn off the road .

Deborah says David was a loving father and a wonderful son. The tragedy has been heart- breaking for Daivd’s family and friends, but his mother says what’s really difficult is Sunday is Mother’s Day .

Deborah wants to continue to educate the community about drunk driving she says when someone makes the decision to get behind the wheel after drinking too much, he or she is making the decision to put every other person around them in danger. Too often, innocent people are the ones who get injured. Deborah says with spring and summer fast approaching, the time for high school dances, family barbeques and sporting events will soon be here. Now is a great time to capture a large audience to provide education on the dangers of drunk driving. “My family suffered a tragic loss when my son was hit by a drunk driver just three days before his 30th birthday. He always looked for the good in people and even after his death, as an organ donor, he continued to touch the lives of others in his community, said Deborah.

The Weinstein says education about the dangers of drunk driving and the negative impact it can have on the lives of all involved is the only way to prevent future senseless tragedies from occurring.” Deborah saw a need to host the 1st Annual St. Louis Walk Like MADD, in memory of my son, The 2st Annual St. Louis Walk Like MADD will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Creve Coeur Park in St. Louis County at 4:00 p.m..

Continued condolences to the Weinstein family. David would be VERY proud of you. There will be 10,000 more innocent victims of this violent crime again this year. NEWS MEDIA-do NOT refer to these events as an “accident.” The word “accident” diminishes the horrible way our loved ones were SLAUGHTERED. They are crashes or wrecks caused by self-indulgent jerks who CHOOSE to drive after drinking. Driving SOBER is also a CHOICE & if you’re CHOOSING to drive SOBER-we thank-you. (yes, you can).
