When complete, the project will include a hotel, zoo themed restaurant, expanded animal habitats, and a bridge and gondola over Interstate 64.
The entire zoo will cover more than 106 acres and a portion will be in the middle of a residential area.
It will be a unique site and include parking, a dog park.
The entire project will be completed in phases over the next 20 to 30 years.
