ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – St. Louisans embraced Saturday’s glorious weather. Thousands of people headed straight outdoors to soak up the sun, tackle yard work or enjoy outdoor festivals.
Bright skies were the ideal backdrop for the 2014 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels delighted the crowds with precision drills and aerobatic feats.
The event featured military displays, interesting aircraft, a veteran’s village and a STEM Expo featuring careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
On Cherokee Street the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration attracted crowds with music, ethnic food, crafts and performers. One visitor marveled at the different cultures sharing the street festival. “I think it represents St. Louis… diversity color it’s eclectic.. it’s St. Louis to the core,” she said.
In Forest Park beer drinkers enjoyed sampling dozens of international and craft beers at the annual St. Louis Microfest to support the not-for-profit Lift for Life Gym. It is an inner city charity that serves some 300 children a year with athletic, social and educational programs.
The air show runs on Sunday as well from 9 am until 5 pm with the Blue Angels performing from 1pm to 3:30 pm.
