Monmouth, OR (KPTV) — There are a lot of statistics in baseball and softball, but after a pit bull interrupted a Western Oregon University softball game this week, the sport needs one more: stolen gloves.

Western Oregon’s game with Simon Fraser University had a brief delay when a pit bull sprinted onto the field at the conclusion of a ground out. The dog immediately stole the Western Oregon shortstop’s glove, then set his targets on the left fielder.

“There’s a dog on the field! Oh boy. That’s something you don’t see every day,” the play-by-play announcer said.

The dog made a leaping grab for the left fielder’s glove, then ran off with the new chew toy in his mouth, making a few sprints around the field.

“He’s just wreaking havoc on this game,” the color commentator said.

Eventually, the dog made a run for right field and finally gave up the glove, then headed back to the stands with a final stat line of 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors and 2 stolen gloves.

In the days since Western Oregon’s 9-0 win over Simon Fraser, the dog has become an internet star.

“Softball Glove-Stealing Pit Bull Is The Second-Best Sports Dog,” said Deadspin. “Dog delay! Pit bull terrier interrupts college softball game and swipes 2 gloves,” said Yahoo.

The dog was probably attracted to the gloves.
the smell or the sweat could have made the dog think they were chew toys or food
