Driver killed after accident with street sweeper on I-270

BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI)-- One person is dead and another one is hurt after a car collides with a MoDOT street sweeper.

It happened early Friday morning on Interstate 270 in Bridgeton.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Lamont Purley was driving a Ford Mustang when he lost control on the slick road from the rain, hit the center median and slammed into a MoDOT sweeper truck.

Purley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The MoDOT driver was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Lanes were shut down earlier but have since re-opened.

    Slow down people just because you have nice tires a fancy car does not mean you are accent proof. SLOW DOWN! Especially in hazardous conditions that would be events like… RAIN, SNOW, SLEET, CONSTRUCTION SITES, HEAVY TRAFFIC and of course SPEED REDUCTIONS SIGNALS. Slow down and get there safe. My condolence to the family.
