MAPLEWOOD, MO (KTVI)-- Good food and a good cause, Dining Out for Life brought a steady stream of traffic to local restaurants Thursday night.
Around 150 restaurants donated between 25-100% of their profits to the St. Louis Effort for AIDS.
In St. Louis, we love to eat and give back and that is what a lot of people did at Schafly.
The organizations largest fundraiser of the year has been going on for 21 years now. It helps people who need it, help with housing, medication and educating people on how to prevent AIDS.
Over 5,000 are affected with the disease in the St. Louis area and without the funds raised this disease is hard to fight.
Patients used to take all sorts of pills to help curb the virus but the medication is really expensive. That`s why EFA was established to help those affected with this disease.
The medication slows down the virus. It doesn`t kill it, but many people don’t know they are infected because it can lay dormant. The symptoms are like other viruses almost flu like but if they don`t get on medication and it becomes AIDS it compromises the immune system and quickly.
Last year St. Louis was the third largest profit maker for Dining Out for Life. Over the last 20 years they have raised $3.1 million for EFA and it all stays in St. Louis.
