EAST ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - An early-morning fire forced people out of their home in East St. Louis.

The fire started around 2:15 a.m. Monday at North 12 Street and College Avenue in a two-story house that had been converted into four apartments.

Everyone who lives there got out safely. The fire later caused the roof to collapse.  East St. Louis firefighters had trouble at one point getting a nearby fire hydrant open.
