CREVE COEUR, MO (KTVI)-- The tragic Boston Marathon touched people around the world.
Jessica Ciccone trained at Forest Park every weekend since October to get prepared for her first marathon. She`s from Creve Coeur and was a sprinter back in college. She told me she never dreamed she`d be running a marathon, but on April 15, 2013 something changed her mind.
It was a moment many couldn`t believe was happening, even for Jessica who was at work.
The Boston Marathon hit a little too close to home for Jessica because a few years ago Boston was her home. After she graduated Mizzou she worked as a TV producer in the Boston market for a while and when she got the news. She immediately grabbed her phone.
It was especially hard for her husband, who is from Boston, and worked with many runners who were injured in the bombing. Jessica made a decision right then and there to run in the next marathon.
She reached out to her the charity that her and her husband used to work with called South Boston Neighborhood House that supports families living in South Boston. She didn`t need to qualify to run the marathon but the training needed to begin because Jessica isn`t much of a long distance runner.
Jessica ran in the Rock and Roll marathon in October and started training ever since.
She tested out her skills when she flew back for her 12-mile training run and the feeling of what was going on around her sank in.
Who knows, maybe she`ll be able to fight back the tears as she crosses the finish line, but she will have accomplished a goal. A goal she didn`t even know she could obtain to show she`s “Boston Strong” too.
She will not be alone. Her husband Frank and her dad who was from Creve Coeur will be there to watch her cross the finish line and celebrate Jessica accomplishing a huge goal.
