Soldier killed in Fort Hood shooting laid to rest

ROLLA, MO (KPLR)-Flags line the streets in Rolla, MO as the town says goodbye to a soldier who chose Rolla as home. The remains of Sgt. Timothy Owens arrived Friday afternoon. The 37-year-old was serving at Fort Hood, Texas, ten days ago when another soldier went on a rampage. Owens was one of three men killed before the gunman shot himself. Sixteen others were injured in the shooting.

Owens spent his early years in Effingham, Illinois, but came to Rolla for high school, and met his wife here. He called the city home.

Six miles of flags line the route the funeral procession will take and hundreds of people will be here too as Owens’ adopted hometown bidding him a final good bye.

Owens is survived by three children, ages 12, 14, and 17. He also recently had discovered a sister he didn’t know he had. He spoke to her for the first and last time about two weeks before his death.

The funeral services were scheduled in Rolla for 11am.
