YUBA CITY, CA (KTXL) – Saira Munoz, 19, was arrested for selling marijuana-laced brownies to her classmates to raise money for a prom dress. Now it turns out, she may be in the U.S. illegally and could be deported. Immigration officials said they are reviewing the case and have not filed deportation proceedings, yet.
Initially, Munoz was sentenced to four years probation and nine days in jail on drug charges. However, with time already served, Munoz did not have to return to jail.
Classmates felt Munoz’s acts were more similar to a student prank. Some students, like James Steers, felt deportation is too harsh and does not accurately fit the crime.
“It’s too much trouble to deport somebody for that,” Steers told FOX 40.
