CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI) – The Missouri Highway Patrol is stepping up efforts Thursday to try and keep the work zone around the Boone Bridge in Chesterfield safe.
It’s called Operation “P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” and it’s all about putting extra troopers around the bridge to catch drivers violating work zone safety laws.
The effort is all about putting extra troopers around the Boone Bridge to catch drivers violating work zone safety laws.
MoDOT is doing a major construction project on the bridge that will eventually result in part of the bridge being brand new.
The Highway Patrol says from 8:00am to 4:00pm Thursday there will be seven troopers focusing on the construction zone near the bridge on both sides of the Missouri River.
The troopers will be using a zero tolerance approach to violations like speeding and following too close.
Thursday’s Operation “P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” coincides with national work zone awareness week. That’s a campaign promoting work zone safety as the spring construction season starts to really get going.
MoDOT says last year eight people were killed in Missouri work zones.
The patrol says troopers will be issuing tickets and warnings to drivers caught breaking work zone laws.
