ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Creating art from data will be the focus of a special project getting underway in St. Louis. The Center of Creative Arts, or COCA, announced Thursday at City Hall that internationally renowned data artist Jer Thorp will be putting together data artwork about St. Louis. It will center on COCA and its place in the community.
Thorp has created all kinds of data artwork including a piece at the 9/11 memorial in New York. It`s still unclear what shape the art will take here.
"I imagine it will be a combination between data that already lives in St. Louis, so city data, and then data that we will actually make for the project." said Data Artist Jer Thorp. "We do sculpture, we do large format projections on buildings, we also do performance."
The 15 month project is being funded with a $75,000 dollar grant through the Regional Arts Commission.
