BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI) – From the west coast to the east, Southwest Airlines is adding new direct flights from St. Louis - Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, DC. The new flights were announced Monday and will start this summer.
Southwest flights take off from Lambert Airport every day, but now travelers will have more direct access to the west coast and the nation's capitol. It's a move that the airline hopes will get more travelers to book flights with Southwest.
This is part of a nationwide rollout of new direct flights.
New direct roundtrip service from St. Louis to Los Angeles will begin June 8. New direct roundtrip service from St. Louis to San Francisco will begin September 30, with fares as low as $119 one way, and there will be additional direct flights from St. Louis to Washington, DC, November 2, bumping the number on that route up to three flights daily.
All the fares for these flights have not been released yet, but Southwest says they will be “fare-busting deals”. They also believe these added flights will bring more business to cab drivers, car rentals, and restaurants and coffee shops in the terminal.
"I think the direct flights are great because the layovers and connections are frustrating when you are traveling far for business," Southwest customer Randy Beckmann said.
