“Make Opening Day a Holiday” campaign goes to White House
(KTVI)- Major League Baseball’s Opening Day a holiday? Apparently baseball fans agree with Ozzie Smith and Budweiser. The “Make Opening Day a Holiday” campaign has gotten the 100,000 signatures necessary to send it to the White House.
Previous story: Should “Opening Day” be a national holiday?
The campaign launched less than thirty days ago by Budweiser. Cardinals Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith serves as the face of the campaign that asked people to sign a WhiteHouse.gov petition honoring Opening Day as a day of national observance via presidential proclamation.
It could take up to 60 days for a decision to be made.
This year’s MLB Opening Day is on March 31. Budweiser, the league’s official beer by the way, will be delivering 2,000 kegs of day-fresh draught Budweiser beer to MLB cities and stadiums across the country next week.
