Alex Rucker: 2014 Youth of the Year

(KPLR) - Alexandrea "Alex" Rucker, 17, is the winner of the 2014 Youth of the Year competition.

She stopped by to talk with Christine Buck about competing against other Boys and Girls Club members for the Missouri Youth of the Year title. There is also a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation.

As the new Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, Rucker is a true example of an extraordinary young woman and is being recognized for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

Rucker is as Senior at Lindbergh High School and has a 3.68 accumulative grade point average. She has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis - Herbert Hoover Club since the age of 11. She started at the Club during summer camp after moving into the neighborhood.

Today, Alex is part of the Junior Staff Program and works with the younger members in the Education department. This experience supports her dream of becoming a teacher. Alex is currently applying toUniversity of Missouri, St. Louis University and Southeast Missouri State for college.

Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C., in September 2014, to compete for the title of BGCA’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will receive an additional scholarship of up to $50,000 from The Rick and Susan Goings Foundation and will have the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the White House.
