Road closures for St. Patrick’s Day weekend

DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Some big changes are coming for Downtown St. Louis just in time for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is opening  a new and wider Walnut Street overpass in Downtown St. Louis Friday. The old bridge was torn down in January as part of the “Park Over the Highway” project. Northbound Memorial Drive between Walnut and Pine Streets would remain closed Friday morning, while crews install new signs and prepare for the traffic shift. Southbound Memorial would stay closed between Chestnut and Market Streets. So, drivers will have to cross Walnut and loop around Luther Ely Smith Park.

The shift starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m.

There will also be some traffic changes tomorrow for the 45th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Downtown. The 20th/Chestnut Street exits from eastbound Interstate-64 will be closed. The Market Street exit from westbound I-64 will also be closed.
