ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - A woman and several of her cats were rescued Tuesday afternoon from a burning home in north S. Louis. The fire broke out around 2 pm at a home near Wells and Union.

Fire officials say someone in a neighboring vacant home was burning grass on the front lawn and it spread next door to the home's first floor.

The homeowner was on the second floor and called 911 to help her escape the flames.

Numerous cats were in the house, but only a few were rescued.

The home suffered heavy damage to its first floor, but the homeowner was uninjured.
