CLAYTON, MO (KPLR) – The trial continues in Clayton on Tuesday for a St. Louis man charged with a shooting and paralyzing a Florissant police officer.

Brian Cannon is accused of shooting officer Mike Vernon three times while hiding in a dumpster during a crime spree in 2012. One bullet lodged in officer Vernon’s spine, paralyzing him below the waist. Cannon is charged with assault, armed criminal action, and burglary.

Vernon is set to testify in the case. County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch is handling the case himself. McCulloch’s father, a St. Louis police officer, was killed in the line of duty in 1964.
