(KTVI) - You may soon have a new park where you can take your dog. Plans are being laid out for a new dog park in Queeny Park in west St. Louis County.
Details are laid out in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The paper says County leaders are looking at putting up a seven acre dog park. A public forum was held Monday night at the dog museum.
Park department officials say a dog park has been in the planning stages for several years and that voter approval of Prop P for County Parks is making the $250,000 project possible.
Plans originally called for the dog park to go immediately south of the museum. But residents who live nearby apparently objected to that. County officials say they will look at an alternative site in the park.
There will be a little over six acres for larger dogs and about three quarters of an acre for smaller ones. There will be a $50 annual free for one dog with a $15 for each additional dog.
A maximum of three dogs will be allowed. Dogs will have to be vaccinated for rabies. Although the dogs could be free in the park, owners have to carry a leash. A timetable for completion of the project is unclear.
