WASHINGTON D.C. (U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT) – U.S. News & World Report released Wednesday its list of Best Nursing Homes for 2014.
Families can search the database by state or zip code. However, a ratings search ranks facilities for health inspections, nurse staffing and quality measures. A ranking of five stars indicates the best standards.
U.S. News looked at ratings from a program called Nursing Home Compare, run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The federal agency sets and enforces nursing home standards. U.S. News gave the “Best Nursing Homes” designation to facilities that earned five stars from the agency.
The report also offers advice on how to pay for care, spot warning signs of bad care, and to manage the emotional and financial issues that come with having to place a loved one in a long-term care facility.
