Record snowmelt may change tap water taste & odor


ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Due to the record snow melt along the Missouri River watershed, customers of Missouri American Water in St. Charles County and most of St. Louis County may notice at change their tap water. The taste and smell of the water may change, because of the increased amount of clay and silt in the river.

 Missouri American Water says the water is safe, meeting or exceeding state and federal water quality standards. Treatment plants for Missouri American Water are testing the water supply up to 500 times daily to insure quality.

Officials they have adjusted the processing of water at treatment plants, and believe any change to the waters taste and smell will pass in five to seven days.
