(KPLR) - Tuesday’s blast of wintery weather came at the height of rush hour, and as the snow fell, MoDOT urged people to stay off the streets so the plows could do their jobs.

While many heeded the warning, those that ventured out kept the Missouri Highway Patrol busy.

Troopers responded to nearly 550 calls for service between midnight on Tuesday and midnight Wednesday in the St. Louis area.

They worked about 200 crashes, many of them for broken down cars and ones that slid off the road.
