Missouri celebrates Rosa Parks Day

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KPLR) – Tuesday, Governor Jay Nixon honored civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, with a day set aside in her honor. February 4th was proclaimed as Rosa Parks Day, celebrating the 101st birthday of Ms. Parks, and her contribution to the fight for civil rights for all Americans.

The day was set aside in 2006, when the state legislature designated February 4th, to honor her for her part in ending discrimination, by sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955. By refusing to give up her seat to a white male passenger, she helped bring an ended segregated bus service Montgomery, Alabama.
