(KTVI) - Once again, service between St. Louis and Chicago -- a hub for the passenger rail -- has been limited by the dangerously cold weather.

A train was supposed to leave St. Louis 4:35 a.m. Tuesday.  But, Amtrak canceled that trip. Several other trains were cancelled before traveling to and from areas like Champaign, Carbondale and Quincy, Illinois.

Forecasters predicted wind chills well below zero in parts of Illinois and Missouri. The cold is dangerous for Amtrak crews and passengers and could damage equipment. Ice could build up on the train tracks and make travel hazardous.

Amtrak cancelledservice to Chicago in early January, also because of the cold weather.
