Before the annual Ice Carnival kicked off in the University City Delmar Loop, a huge snowflake fell in Festus.

That was the carnival’s organizer and Chief Snowflake Joe Edwards. He was ready for his jump at Fly Free Skydiving. Sculptors also got ready to show off their skills on Delmar Boulevard. But, this event would be more than just animals and letters carved from ice.

Fans looked forward to performers, games — even a human dogsled race and penguins walking around as if they lived on Delmar. Members of the Red Bull Air Force would skydive, as well.

The event kicks off Friday, January 17, 2014, with the Snow Ball at the Moonrise Hotel.  The Carnival starts Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. with the Frozen Buns 5K and 10K Runs.  This family-friendly event runs through 10 p.m.
