Elmwood residents claim industrial contamination making them sick
ELMWOOD PARK, MO (KTVI)– People living in Elmwood Park got some answers from a federal agency Thursday night about their claims that industrial contamination in their neighborhood is making them sick.
This follows a review of health concerns by the agency for toxic substances and disease registry.
In December, the agency began looking at the connection between trichloroethylene, an industrial chemical and chronic illness like cancer and renal disease.
It’s believed the contaminants traveled through soil into groundwater and then by vapor into the homes.
Starting January 27th the county health department will go door-to-door collecting family medical information.
In addition, the company from which the contaminants leaked has offered to put vapor blocking devices in every home.
