“Slap Shot” brawl comes to life in minor league hockey game
DANVILLE, IL (KTVI) – Slap Shot was a movie, right? It seemed to come to life at one minor league hockey game over the weekend. The brawl involving the goalie, players and coaches ended with nine ejections.
The game between the Danville Dashers and the Watertown Privateers spawned a brawl that lasted nearly 10 minutes. The video (above) is more than 17 minutes long. The announcer’s commentary is being compared to a wrestling match. At one point he says, “This goalie has got to go. Somebody has got to rip his mask off and pop him.” The camera operator had a hard time following the action, because it was all over the rink.
At one point, a player rips off another’s sweater during their fight down on the ice, then skates off twirling it while a ref comes after him.
As quickly as refs break up one fight, two more happen on another part of the ice.
