More snow means more messy roads for drivers

WEST ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) — We’re getting a break from the sub-freezing temperatures, but not from the snow.

That means the highways are messy once again for drivers.   The snow has partially covered many roadways, but it’s enough for drivers to take notice and use caution.  Both MoDOT and IDOT trucks were out early Thursday morning working to clear the roads.

The MoDOT gang plow was spotted on Interstate 270 between Manchester and Big Bend clearing the way.  The snow started coming down about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. MoDOT says it has had full crews out overnight, meaning 212 trucks and more than 500 employees.

They have been plowing and salting. MoDOT says the biggest areas of concern are exit ramps, bridges and secondary roads.  There is already residual salt on the roads from the last big storm, so that helps with the latest snow.

IDOT says they also have trucks out all over the district on the east side of the river. The Missouri Highway Patrol says they have seen some crashes that are likely weather related.
