MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) – So many things are closed or cancelled: the SLU women’s basketball game, the Arch, the Zoo, Sunday performance of West Side Story at the Fox Theatre. Even Hidden Valley Ski Resort is closed Sunday and Monday. But there are a few places that are still open.
The airport is open – for now – though it’s down to one runway. More than 200 flights have been cancelled. The City Museum downtown is still open.
Though a lot of churches cancelled services, a lot of them did not. A few dozen hearty souls ventured out for 11:00am mass at St. Richard’s in Maryland Heights.
They were nice and warm inside as workers plowed the parking lot and shoveled the steps outside. The weather made it impossible for most to get there. Certainly strong faith was a driving force for those who did make it – with a little good fortune thrown in, too.
Pam explained, “Somebody had gone down our street already. I don’t mean plowing, but cars that made little ruts. So we just followed the ruts. That’s how we got here.”
She said there was one time she missed church because of the weather: the blizzard of ’82, when there was a foot and a half of snow, she couldn’t get the car out of the driveway.
