Area residents stocking up for winter storm
BRIDGETON, MO (KPLR) – It may have been a sunny and relatively mild day, but there was very little calm before the storm when it came to folks stocking up on storm supplies.
With four to eight inches of snow expected throughout much of St. Louis, Branneky True Value Hardware in Bridgeton was beyond busy.
Store owner Jeff Branneky explains, “This morning we’ve had a full parking lot most of the day. We opened at 7 o’clock, I had 2 truckloads of product come in right around 7 o’clock and from then on, it’s just been crazy.”
Folks were stocking up on everything from firewood to snow blowers, ice scrapers and snow shovels. Customer Jessica Perkins says, “I’m buying a second shovel because based on what they’re saying inches-wise, I think two people are going to be needing to do the driveway this time around.”
Another customer adds, “What happens is the snowplow in the apartment complex comes by and then we’ve got this much snow behind our cars, so that’s what I need my shovel for.”
Branneky anticipates demand based on the forecast, and is all stocked up for the weekend. Four truckloads of rock salt and other ice melters were delivered throughout the day. Usually, there are no deliveries on Saturdays. “So we will have another 80 palettes of product that is in the process of being unloaded right now,” the store owner explains.
But some commodities are more about enjoying the winter wonderland, than trying to clear it all away. Branneky says, “Sleds are always a big seller. And that’s good for the weekend, because everybody’s off of work.”
