ALTON, IL (KTVI)– About 200 plows were prepared to hit the streets in IDOT’s District 8 New Year’s Day.

A snow storm was expected to sweep into the area around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

IDOT pretreated roads and bridges and officials said the plows would be salting roads and plowing snow overnight.

“We want to be prepared for the morning rush Thursday,” IDOT spokesman Joseph Monroe said.

He also warned that drivers should give plows plenty of space on the roads and go slow.

The holiday snow fall is upsetting to some drivers.

“It is one of the reasons I want to move. I would have rather had this for Christmas versus to start the year,” Brooke Bishop said.
